So excited to link up for Monday Made It! As I mentioned the other day, I was anxiously waiting for my vinyl order that just came in…. especially because I was able to complete a project that I started last summer: Color Day Shirts!
My buddy Kelly was making these shirts with her team, and I loved the idea so I made some too. The only problem was, I ended up running out of vinyl (and time!)… so the project was never completed–until NOW!!!
SO excited that I now have a complete set… red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, brown, black, and white! The iron on vinyl from ExpressionsVinyl.com is wonderful because you can get it in so many different colors–including the sparkly silver glitter vinyl that you see here. Just cut the letters on your Cameo and iron them on… VOILA, color day shirts!! I can tell you the ones I completed last year were a huge hit with my kiddos.
“What are Color Days?” you might ask. Well, it’s simply a way to review colors, learn color words, and complete fun color activities. We LOVE learning the Frog Street Press color songs and practicing spelling color words. It’s funny, but this is something parents always comment on at Back to School night… how they were impressed that their kindergartner could sing and spell the color words already! Honestly, I have had these a LONG time (can you say, cassette tape!?) and we usually just sing them without music. But, they are all super easy “piggy back” songs and the kids learn them easily. I know that the amazing Heidi Songs has also created a set of color word songs (did you hear, she’s now on iTunes?)! So, there are lots of fun options to teach your kiddos their color words!!
Here’s a little flyer I made to send home about our color days. Click on the image above to snag your own copy (it opens in powerpoint, so you can add your own dates). If you don’t have the font, it’s Kevin and Amanda’s Teacher’s Pet which you can download for free. PS It looked all funky when I clicked on it, but was fine once I downloaded it–let me know if you have any trouble! :o)
Still looking for more VA Bloggers…

Love this idea! I use my cameo to make fun t-shirts more than I use it for anything else. 🙂 Can you share what font you used of your shirts? It's super cute!!

Thanks for the cute idea for color days. I downloaded the flyer and all the letters were overlapping one another. How do I fix that?
I love the color shirts. Thanks for sharing the freebie. I am definitely going to try that next year. What font are the color words in because it is just showing up as Times New Roman when I downloaded it.

Thanks, Tiffany! :o)
Jill, Some were the ones my friend and I cut last summer on her cricut (with the Mickey Mouse font cartridge). The newer ones–which I have to post pics of were KG Second Chances Solid. I think any chunky font would work great!!
Thanks, Jennifer!!
Thanks, Sandi!!
Melissa, Under the word file, click the down arrow. This will download the file to your computer. You'll have to install the Kevin and Amanda font if you don't have it (for the date boxes). Hope this helps!!
Kate, Under the word file, click the down arrow. This will download the file to your computer. You'll have to install the Kevin and Amanda font if you don't have it (for the date boxes). The color words are Pass the Chex font from Kevin and Amanda.. but that should be fine since it's saved as a png. Hope this helps!!
Great, Andrea!!
Thanks!!
Such a great idea for the younger grades!!!
Thanks, Britney!
Hi Karen! I found your blog through Nikki's VA blog hop spreadsheet. I am new at blogging, so my blog is certainly a work in progress. (I'm getting a redesign done at the moment.) I am definitely wanting to meet and get to know the other VA teacher bloggers. I am tutoring a lot this summer, so I'm not available the 25th, however I still would like to be involved/included in the future. Thanks for organizing!

Comprehension Connection
Carla, I'm sorry you're not able to make it… please let me know if anything changes or you're able to re-adjust your schedule to attend!!! :o)
Karen —
I missed last summer's meet-up, but hopefully make this one! Would it be a probably if I brought my seven week-old little guy along? I'm nursing him and he's not taking bottles well enough to leave him more than an hour or two yet! (Ugh, such anxiety over returning to school!)
Let me know!
